My co-workers were organizing a baby shower, and the idea was to bring a book as a gift. Little did I know, I would find books and notebooks with slogans pointing to girl power culture.
I usually order my books from Amazon, but I procrastinated and decided just to run into Target.
This Christian woman ran out of Target shaking and unable to believe her eyes.

Girl Power Culture is Everywhere
I’m sure you’ve seen the “girl power” t-shirts, notebooks, cups and so much more. This stuff is everywhere.
I’m not living under a rock, but I had never really given it much thought. I was never particularly drawn to them, but I figured other girls might like the positive affirmations.
But I have T-shirts and Mugs with “Girl Power” on them, now what?
Today’s blog is not about the fact that having a “girl power” t-shirt or mug is sinful or demonic. The thing that made me rush out of that Target was not a journal with pink letters and GIRL POWER on it.
No! __ It was the realization that it has gone too far. Girl power is the culture!
There is this culture of girl authority or “power”, and it goes beyond a catchy phrase.
This ideology goes deep into the spiritual side.
I’m referring to the soul of a person.
The biblical worldview that all people are being pursued by the living God of the Bible, by the message of the Gospel of Christ.
But there is an opponent too, Satan. “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?” – Mark 8:36 ESV
There is a battle for the soul. You have to fight and truly walk in your faith.
Live According to Truth NOT Girl Power Culture

As Christians we are people of faith or as the book of Hebrews calls us, “followers of the Way” (Acts 24:14).
We follow not our own teachings or desires, but those of the Way. Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”- John 14:6
My hope is to discuss a topic that is often hard to talk about.
There is confusion and false teachings everywhere about God’s design for salvation and womanhood.
More than ever, we must realize that there is an attack on the biblical worldview of womanhood and manhood.
There is no room for debate that the agenda of this world has flipped the biological truths that once were undebatable. And in defense of this truth, I want to fight for the biblical design of what it means to be a woman. I am a woman after all.
My intention is not to offend or point fingers, but to speak the truth, in hope of edifying the church.
John 7:16-17
Girl Power Culture is Not New
I’m pretty sure all of you have seen this slogan at least once in your lifetime.
It’s very popular to talk about girls having value or power. I’m not a historian or anything but my guess is that the rise of feminism has something to do with it or ill-treatment of women. Neither of those two realities are new either.
I want you to look closely at this first picture I took. This product displays the famous slogan of “girl power”.
Does it remind you of something?
Well, first of all it’s a statue. It’s a trophy. It’s a display to show pride and glory. Admiration of the viewer is demanded! Is that not what a trophy is for?
I asked myself many questions on that Target run, as I looked for a cute book to gift at a baby shower.
Today, I share some of those questions I asked myself. May we meditate and bring this to the feet of Christ.
Questions to ask Yourself about Girl Power Culture
- What is the message being promoted?
- Why do you think girl power is appealing?
- Who gets the glory?
- Why do girls need to display power?
- Do girls/women really seek power?
- What kind of power is good?
- Who should have all the power?
Psalm 62:7
Know God’s Promises and Don’t Rest in your own Power
The next image is also a product with a similar message. All the images I will be sharing were on the same display. Other bookshelves were full of novels and movies full of the same ideas, feel free to go see for yourself.
Can I ask you Christian woman?
Do you know the promises of God?
Can you name a few?
Was salvation the first one?
I’m afraid those are never the promises we remember. A few years ago, literally two years ago. I would have said, “God promises peace, food, shelter and a wonderful plan to prosper and save us.”
Dive Deep into the Teachings of Christ
There are numerous teachings out there about prosperity, goal setting and being a blessed child of God. Are all these teachings biblical (confirmed by scripture)?
I would encourage you, sister, to dive deep into the teachings of Christ. We are often promised things that God never said, and then we walk away in despair wondering why God doesn’t do this or that.
Look at this picture of Girl Power Culture, tell me what you see?
I want you to look at this message on the cover of the journal, a notebook that will become a young girls’ or womens’ companion. If you could come up with the main idea being promoted here, what would you say it is?
- Who is worthy?
- Why were humans separated from God?
- What do people deserve?
- Did God provide a Savior to reconcile?
We were born sinners into this world, worthy of no -good thing. But in his deep love…. God sent his only son to die in our behalf!
Are we not to respond back to God’s mercy and die to ourselves?
He redeemed us to be set free from the bondage of sin and death.
One day we can and will stand before God Almighty.
It’s dangerous to see so many lies in front of our eyes.
You must guard yourself from this mentality of entitlement.
It’s everywhere! Look to Christ who covers all our darkness.
John 13:8
Women of God are Called to Live Different than the Culture
Let’s look at more images of this agenda. What else can it be called.
That night, on that Target run. I ran out with pain in my heart and shivers down my spine.
This ideology of power and pride is not what God teaches. This is not what any child of God should listen to or even consider to be true.
Christians are NOT immune to being deceived.
Christians sin daily and it is only through the power of Christ that you and I can stay in the narrow path.
Girl Power Culture Pushes Women to Believe Rights are King
It implies that women have rights and they get to choose what those rights are.
Girls (women) get to make all the decisions in their lives.
Women are smart, beautiful and POWERFUL enough to be anything! It sounds good, but that is where the deception is.
This idea is completely anti-God. If you are an unbeliever, then it’s totally fine.
This is the mentality and lifestyle of a lost and wondering woman. How do I know?
I know because I was once a lost, sinful and depressed girl that pursued all my passions. I did everything I wanted, and no one could tell me otherwise.
Jesus is the King of Kings not Girl Power Culture
Christ, in his love and obedience became obedient to the point of death. Jesus is the King of kings. He submitted his will to the Father.
He did NOT do his own will!
Follow Christ not Culture
As believers we are called to die to ourselves. We are called to be slaves of Christ. God gave us commandments and standards to live by.
Disobedience has consequences. Sin brings death and I’m not saying we are saved by works, but we are called to submit to authorities above us. Christian women, we can’t be or do what we want because that’s what we did before Christ.
Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. – Ephesians 5:6
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. – Galatians 2:20
Look to Yourself is the Motto in Girl Power Culture
Every image I share just gets worse.
This idea of girl power culture has risen so much that it becomes normal.
The sad thing is to think that a woman is defined by the culture.
Romans 12:2
Women are exposed to many ideas about womanhood. The most relevant, usually is pointed at how to dress, but this ideology is going deeper, into the inward makings of what a woman is by design.
Look at this Image, It’s Innocent
What is the main idea here?
Women need to look to whom? Ooh, okay, to themselves.
That is the person that will bring clarity, healing, purpose and dignity.
That’s just more Anti-God Language
“You don’t need God! You don’t need anyone but yourself.”
Is that not the LIE of lies?
This horrible lie can drive girls everywhere to think that they are all alone or worse, that they ALONE have the power to define and care for themselves.
God teaches the opposite.
Go back to genesis. Lies are always there to point us away from the truth.
God tells us what is true because He is the Truth, and Satan is the FATHER if LIES.
Look to Christ! God made us and knows us. Look to the author of truth, in order to know your true identity.
1 Peter 5:8
A Path for False Religion
Lastly, I had to share this image. Although, I don’t like it because all I see is wickedness.
It also reminds me of my past. Early in my college years I started attending a Buddhist temple. I was seeking peace and relaxation, a new understanding.
I was heading down the wrong path.
The thing that made me run out of Target that day, and cry in bitter anger.
Is the fact that women are being sold these CHEAP and DANGEROUS LIES.
It’s wrapped in pretty letters and fussy words, but that agenda will only lead a women’s soul into false religion.
This book below, was on the same section as all the other journals and “girl power” statue.
It can all start with believing a little slogan and slowly we start questioning…
What does the word of God say?
Maybe we end up embracing a false religion.
Stay in the Way
Sister, I encourage you to seek help.
To run as fast as you can to the feet of Christ. He saves and heals.
Christ is the Way
All you have to do is repent and call upon the name of Christ Jesus.
Your sister, Rosa Rosa
