“She Will Not Fall” but I have Fallen Many Times: 3 Motivational Verses to Rethink

As a woman we go through so much already, and in the church, we will also face tribulations. Things can seem perfect, until they’re not.

“Did God really hear me?”

“Why hasn’t he answered my prayer?”

“Do I have a calling?”

If you been here or maybe you haven’t, but you want to learn more about the Bible keep on reading. I will not explain the history or context of these verses, but I will leave other resources for you to check out at the end.

Also, check out this other blog post with a similar theme.

WHEN READING MY BIBLE IS NOT WORKING

Scripture Has a Purpose

There are many reasons why we need to read the Bible and you can probably name a few. It teaches us, guides us, rebukes us and comforts us. Right?

Yeah, scripture can do all that, but deep-down God wants us to know Him. He has revealed himself to us in a way we can comprehend.

He points us to His son Jesus Christ. We need to know who He is, why He came and understand who this God we serve really is. Isn’t God generous with us?

He is our friend and tells us his plans! (John 15:15)

 A Renewed Mind in Christ

That’s where we have to start before diving into the verses ahead. But first, let me tell you a little about my journey and how I got here.

Hopefully this can help you see why we need to rethink through these 3 verses.

Motivation Ladder

Right before I got married, in year 5ish of my walk with Christ. I felt so empty and dry. I felt motivated every day, at least on Sundays. My church was calm, and they all seemed happy.

In contrast, my life felt hard, but mainly because waiting for marriage was a difficult walk for me (another topic). But more than that I was beginning to see deep rooted sins in myself that I had to give to the Lord.

I was so confused. I thought all my struggles with sin had ended at my conversion.

Who is Teaching us?

The point is that I struggled in many ways. But for a whole year I also began to ask questions about my beliefs and about the Bible. What I had learned as a new Christian was very different from the preaching I would hear at my church and online.

I didn’t like what I was seeing. Many things started to seem off and when there was a verse here and there, it was so out of place.

It seemed as if I was being motivated to live this Christian Life and yet there was no real food (fuel) to keep me going. When I got home the empty words/ tips didn’t cut it anymore.

Quick disclaimer: I am not blaming my church for all my difficulties but that’s where I was when God confronted me with these deep questions. Of course we must always be vigilant of what the Church teaches, but that’s a topic for another day.

The thing I needed most was the bread of life. Jesus came to give us life. A life in him and his word is the daily bread. Motivation is not bread, milk or meat.

And here’s where I realized that deep Bible study and being led by the Spirit is so important because false teachings are everywhere.

These things affect our daily walk, and we need to evaluate in order cut (be pruned) and grow.
(John 15)

Let’s Begin with the List

Now, let me tell you that these verses in themselves are not the problem. This is God’s word after all, and we can trust it as true and nothing else. The problem is really the teachings and false hope that surrounds and continues to be preached around these commonly known verses.

   #1

I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:13 ESV

In context 4:10-13

We are more than conquers, victorious and powerful women. Does that sound too familiar?

As a new Christian I was certainly a defeated, unmotivated and sin driven women, so these words were so comforting. And quick note: God through his word can help us be courageous, Spirit filled and virtues in all we do.

The difference, I would say is to think that in “ALL THINGS” we will somehow be these supernatural women.

ALL THINGS…The house, the career, the money, the mental health, the kids, the husband/boyfriend…

And that in all things God will give us strength. Even if it’s contrary to scripture and against his will, hmm. I don’t think that’s how it goes.

Are we servants or goddesses?

I don’t want to ramble, but the point is that you and I have to go from simply being motivated that nothing in life can go wrong, to knowing that yes, everything can go wrong.

And yet God can give me the strength to somehow live with all the possible afflictions that come. Whether it’s poverty, sickness or trails.

He is the source of our strength in the tribulation. The daily grind, as we know it is hard but we have faith, hope and love.

We have Christ! He is our strength and fortress through the bumpy road ahead.

I can do “all the hard things” that come through Christ who strengthens me.

#2

God is within her, she will not fall.
God will help her at break of day.

Psalm 46:5 NIV

In context 46:4-6

In my wildest dreams I always envisioned myself as an independent woman. I didn’t need anyone or anything. I was invincible, unstoppable and oh yeah, I never made mistakes.

Of course that was just in my dreams. In reality it was the complete opposite. In private I was completely helpless, specially before knowing Christ.

So, what was the solution to all my failure? Well, being a super Chrisitan of course. No naming negative things, positive vibes only. After all, “God is within me, I will not “fail” or “fall” …

No wonder we’re a mess when we hit the bottom.
But… didn’t Christ come to make all my dreams possible?

Oh, do we have to get in line with the true teaching of this verse. I got sick of the cute flower filled decorations for girls’ bedrooms. It false hope. It’s pure motivation.

Being a Christian woman is not living in a happy bubble. We are fighting a battle daily. And we will fall, and what we need as women it to know that in the last day, Christ will hold his church (his people) the city of Jerusalem (HER) and we won’t fall and crumble because God made a way! Hallelujah for our eternal heritage of salvation in Christ Jesus.

And in the meantime. Yes, God is with every believer even if we fall.

You will get back up with his hand and mercy. But we will FALL!

You are a child of God, but even His children fall. Actually, it’s even more noticeable when it does happen. You and I are open letters, on display and everyone is looking.

It’s important to know that we can fall, and not be so devastated looking at God like why, when we do.

We know why!

We live in a valley of shadow and death. Sin still lives in our flesh. We are new creations, but we aren’t in the glorified body yet. Sister, we must not let pure motivation and fluffy dreams of this supernatural women (idea) linger in our minds.

Our minds deserve truth. Let us keep renewing it in the word and truth.

#3

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

In context 29:10-14

What ends up happening when we use scripture in the wrong way is that disappointment and confusion find their way in. It’s great to know or “think” that God has great plans for us___ BUT are those the Lord’s exact words for us?

I guess the book of Job is not in the Bible! (The guy surely knew this verse, right?)

Here is the problem. This verse sounds so good, and it can be of so much encouragement to God’s people, but we have to know that this is about a very specific moment in history.

God had sent his people into exile (as punishment) and lots of horrible things happened.

In the end God would restore them. What a marvelous story of God’s grace.

If you’re a believer you have a promise that one day this world will be judged, and our King and Savior will return.

God’s promises go beyond this world and our present afflictions. The Bible narrative is rich of encouragement to help us wait. It doesn’t promise a good and perfect life here.

Afterall, this Earth is polluted with sin and needs a savior. You and I need to understand that God’s plan and future for us goes beyond this moment intime. Time is so short. It’s like a flower… it’s gone quickly.

This verse can encourage us right now, but it’s not about our dreams. God’s hopes, plans and thoughts are not like ours (Isaiah 55:8-9).

Do you agree? What are some take aways and if you disagree tell us why?

We can learn from each other with respect and kindness.

Think About These Things

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
