Being a new mom and finding time to read the Bible is a challenging task.
Are you struggling with getting back into the Bible after having your baby? Or perhaps your in the toddler stage?
Whatever your situation is. please know it’s possible!

Quiet Time Will Never Look the Same Again
Let me talk to the person who had a consistent Bible reading before having a Baby.
Maybe you had time dedicated as soon as you woke up?
You got your coffee and closed the door? Or perhaps you we’re the doodling one that had every color and added notes while sipping on your tea?
I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news, but that old way of reading the Bible will have to change as you move forward in motherhood. Your quiet time reading the Bible and praying is going to shift.
I’m sure you have discovered the sleepless nights and other motherly activities that are repetitive and leave you exhausted by the hour bed time comes around.
All I want you to know is that there will need to be some adjustments to how things look moving forward.
So, let’s look at where and when this new schedule can give you a very needed break in the word of God.
Each Season of Motherhood Makes Bible Reading Look Different
This is for new mom’s, but maybe you’re already in the toddler stage and getting Bible time on the schedule is still hit or miss.
I will give you different times in which a 5-10 minute quiet time (Bible time) could be squeezed into your busy day. It’s won’t be completely quiet, but know that any Bible is better than no Bible.
This will look like you staying near by and still keeping an eye on your kiddo, especially if they are still learning to eat. Stay safe in how you go about this.
Most of these times will be multi-tasking, not ideal, but like I said we are trying to get at least some time in the word. This is not the time to be rigid.

Where to Consider Scheduling Bible Reading Time for New Moms
Your schedule is individual to you as a new mom, but I’m sure most of us have these times scheduled in the day. Now, if you’re a new mom and working mom, then this will look different.
Possible Bible Reading spots for new moms:
- Snack time ( self weaning until any age)
- Breakfast
- Nap time
- Nursing time (instead of scrolling, we all do it)
- Reading time (buy childrens books with scripture or read the Bible and then a book of their choice)
- After everyone goes to bed (15 minutes of complete quiet, Bible in hand and relaxing tea)
- Early morning (this might not work for the newborn stage)
- After Lunch
- During independent play time
- Exchange an activity for another ( example: exercise today, Bible tomorrow or cut the time in half (15 min Bible/ 15 min other activity you enjoy)
- Ask husband for support (break time)
- Family devotional
Hard-times call for drastic measures. You can still get the Bible and prayer into your schedule, the key is being flexible and truly putting it as a priority.
Will there be days in which it just doesn’t happen? Yes, just like other things that you can’t seem to get to anymore. I remember not showering or washing my hair for days at times.
Early motherhood is hard! Hey, sometimes you don’t get to eat depending on the busy, hectic and crazy rhythm you got going on.
Don’t make your baby an excuse, sometimes sitting them on your lap and reading a verse together is all that’s possible.
Pray continuely and ask the Lord for peace, trust that this stage will come to an end some day.

Tips for New Moms to be Successful!
Bible Reading tips to consider:
- Don’t make it a guessing game, “what should I read today?”
Read a whole book, read by chapter or page and book mark it. If you only read a verse and baby needs you, so be it. Tommorrow you’ll know, ” oh, I was in chapter 2.”
Sometimes I read the same chapter a million times before I feel like I actually read it.
- Leave Bibles all around the house
Here’s a personal thing that works for me. I have several Bibles, and so I put one in the bathroom, living room, kitchen and bedroom. Hey, I don’t have time to be guessing where my Bible is, if I get 10 minutes of a quiet baby or a calm toddler I will take it.
- Freedom ( I skipped a day or 2 of Bible reading, hey maybe even a week!)
Try to remember you are not a failure. Bible reading is a spiritual discipline, yes it good do it, but it’s not a burden. Try again next time.
- Remember it’s a NEED and NOT a want!
The mentality should be to think about it like water. You need God’s word to survive.
- Reading the Bible doesn’t save you, Christ does.
Always remember reading it is not to gain favor, but you do it because you want to know and spend time with your Savior.
- Seasons of womenhood
Understand that your single years and married years aren’t the same, and your time looks totally different. If you can’t journal like before, then just find something else that works.
- Take a break, do a fast and clear your schedule
Here is the thing, sometimes we have to many things on our plate and we blame the baby/kids for the lack of time we have. But I want you to consider removing certain things once in a while. Maybe a phone fast for a couple of hours, then see if you have at least 10 minutes to read the Bible.
Other Examples: people, job, activities:
I used to take days off from work for feeling sick, why not take a day off for feeling spiritually sick? Jesus is the Doctor of doctors! Taking a day to prioritize your relationship with God is worth it, specially if you are burned out. If the issue is the child, then call a baby sitter or grandma; even if it’s just for an hour or two.
You’ve got it momma!

You Have Freedom in Christ, Don’t let Bible Reading become a Task to check-off from the Ten Commandments!
