Autumn/ Fall is one of the most beautiful times of the year. Decorating a home feels like a warm hug, until you see all the Hobby Lobby nick-nacks. TEMPTATION ALERT!

Now, you might love these decor pieces and we can disagree on that, but one thing we can all agree on____is that they’re cheap.

So, feel free to skip the trendy decor pieces! Just a thought.

What Saving Money is all about, Home Decor 101

Now, saving money is not about buying the cheapest things in the store.

It’s really about buying what we need and can actually afford. So, for this list of NO spend decor ideas, I will stay away from conventional decor peices that you can find at Hobby Lobby or Dollar General.

I will rather focus our energy into a no spend home decor session. So, no… I won’t recommend anything from a store.

Let’s truly use our imagination and embrace the no spend, broke attitude___ which sometimes is necessary when the bank acount is dry!

Now, if you have money and your being cheap then a no spending decor session, is like a hobby for you, but if you’re BROKE it’s more of a painful situation.

Let me tell you this, you will survive!

The key is to change your mindset from a victim to a go-getter. Embrace the fact that life is what it is right now, and lemonade is what you must squeeze from your lemons.

You need to look at your current decor and ask yourself:

  • Do I have too much?
  • Can I reuse what I have?
  • Am I starting from scratch?
  • Can I thrift a little, if I have nothing?
  • If I need to spend zero dollars can I look for FREE items online?
  • Do I have any other option?
  • Can I practice thankfulness?

If your home is at an empty stage then decorating with a no spend budget is a bit harder, but please know that it’s still possible. I’m cheering you on sister!

Consider yard sales, free stuff by the side of the road or ask a neighbor if they are getting rid of any seasonal decor. My best bet is Facebook Market, you can find FREE stuff there. Do a search for Fall Decor for FREE 🙂

No Spending Decor is Possible!

Now let’s get started with the list of 10 ideas to decorate your HOME for Fall, without any money!

#1. Use What you have to Decorate your Home

I will give you an example of the abundance at my home, but just look around and see what you have.

Vases are my obsession and so, over the years I have collected a few, and I started a garden recently too. So, flowers are in abundance all around.

I decorated with vases and flowers. They are a no spend item. Hey, buying bouquets is not cheap and real flowers are always better.

My flowers were not completely traditional Fall themed, but it will work.

Maybe you have lot’s of candles or frames?

How about blankets and baskets? Do a no-spend shopping around your home and see what is in abundance.

I’m sure you will make it look cozy for this Autumn season___ be creative!

#2. Fix something or re-use it in a New Way

Maybe you have an old wreath but it’s more for Spring than Autumn. Get creative and replace those bright florals with leaves from a tree or bush.

Turn your Wreath from one thing to another. Perhaps your favorite decor piece has a part that fell off, glue it back on and give it a new life.

Have fun with this idea, it really is exciting to fix something or reuse a decor piece in a different way.

#3. Use Books for Fall Decor

Now, if you have a good library, then this is easy for you, but if you don’t it’s still a cheap option at thrift stores.

Look for book covers that remind you Fall. The colors of the books will be your statement. Think of burgundy, red, orange, green, purple tones like that really go together.

A good idea to get cozy Fall color ideas is to use Pinterest and explore what kind of Autumn vibe you want to achieve.

#4. Hang or Fill Baskets for this Autumn Season

Please tell me you have baskets!

Baskets of all shapes and sizes really make a difference when decorating on a tight budget.

Skinny and relatively flat baskets really work for hanging on the wall. It really adds texture to your space and it looks different.

Now, this might not work if your decor style is traditional or modern, but anything else like rustic and a mix of boho or mid-century would work.

If you are more traditional and modern, then filling a basket with florals or vase fillers, like seashells or pine cones could also add some nice elements to your space.

Do you have spheres that could work as a basket filler?

If you do also consider painting them to match your Autumn decor.

#5. Paint Your Own Artwork

Now, if you feel inspired go ahead and save money by making your own art. Fall themed paintings could add so much cozyness to your space and you don’t need to spend.

If you don’t consider yourself an artist, then ask someone you know or thrift some artwork. I know losts of teens that would love an opportunity to use their art skills.

#6. Play with Color, Fall Doesn’t Need to be all Orange!

Orange is a great color, but Fall colors are many. Decorate your home with a neutral vibe or a moody look.

Be creative, don’t feel like you have to go out and purchase things that fit into the orange, yellow and brown Autumn aesthetic.

#7. Decorate With Fruit

Peaches, apples, lemons, cabbage___you name it.

Again, your fruit doesn’t need to be in the traditional Fall color category. Be creative and use what you have. Don’t rush to buy more fruit.

It’s a no spend home decorating list, remember!

#8. Give a Little dust and clean, it goes a long way

Sometimes all our home needs is a little dusting. I don’t love this cleaning must, but when I neglect it___ spider webs appear!

You don’t really need spider webs in your Fall decor__ unless you like that vibe!

When you want to save money, deciding that a clean home is good enough and you don’t need to spend, is a good habit to practice.

Thankful thoughts only, and read a book… sip your hot drink friend, and breathe!

#9. Use blankets to make it extra cozy

If you love cozy Fall vibes, then this one is for you my thrifty friend.

You can make a home feel so good this Fall by simply pulling out all your chunky blankets to decorate your house.

Save the money for something else and decide that fluffy is the new decor must-have!

Hey, you have so many fluffy stuff in your linen closet or wherever you keep the throw blankets.

#10. Change the color of the hand soap!

Hey, it can be liquid or bar soap. I think this is such a cute idea and it’s cost affective. I had orange soap already. I just changed out the foam colorless soap and there it is.

Extra touches of awesome is what I call it!

And I know this a no spend list, but if you can buy something, I do recommend some soap dispensers that work for all seasons.

Check out this post where I share my favorite dispenser and other pretty kitchen things.

A No Spend Fall Home Decor Session is not Impossible!

I hope this list inspired you to do a no spend decor session in your home.

You will be surprised as to how much you can do with what is already there.

Money is a valuable resource and making sure we use it wisely is a great place to be.

Happy Fall everyone!

Blessings,
